Ways to Maintain Your Home’s Gutters
July 19, 2017Your gutters play a critical role in protecting your home from water damage, which is why it’s so important to maintain them and promptly repair any problems. Preventative gutter maintenance not only bolsters your home’s protection, but it extends the service life of your gutters, saving you money in the long run.
In today’s post, Huff N’ Puff, the top gutter contractor in the area, discusses gutter maintenance methods—including the use of Gutter Helmet®:
Inspecting and Clearing
We recommend inspecting and cleaning your gutters twice a year, in the fall and spring. Loosen any the dirt blown into the gutter and scrub it off using a hard, durable brush. Flush your gutters with water to remove materials lodged in the downspouts and troughs. You may have to re-adjust the slope of your gutters every now and then so water flows toward the downspouts. Determine if the gutter is still in the right place by running water through it; if the water drains slowly, you may have to reposition the gutter.
Keep Downspouts in Good Condition
The downspouts must remove water away from your home; if you need to, install extenders to do this. If your neighborhood experiences heavy rain or even snow throughout the year, have the spouts expel these into a dry well. At Huff ‘N Puff, we have a solution for these problems: we offer our customers Gutter Helmet systems. Our products make it easier for you to clear gutters and keep them in good condition for longer.
Gutter Helmet has a patented system that, unlike other gutter covers in the market, has a slit that only allows water to flow into it while shedding debris to the ground. It uses the principle of surface tension to do so, plus its tensile strength allows it to handle higher than normal loads.
For Winters
Winter can be harsh for homeowners and may even add to the chores and maintenance work they need to do to keep their homes in good condition. We’ll make your work easier with our heated gutter system. Our product prevents the accumulation of ice on the gutters and eaves.
