Important – Helmet Heat™ Winter Reminder
Thank you for your purchase of Helmet Heat™ Ice Reduction System for your home. The system will assist you in helping to keep your home safe from ice buildup, which could cause expensive repairs. When used properly, Helmet Heat will assist in preventing icicles from forming on the edge of the roofline. It will also help to keep your gutter system free flowing, which prevents water from freezing and causing backups during the winter months.
Please note that you may see the presence of icicles for a short period of time under certain weather conditions. Below you will find the correct procedures to follow. These procedures will ensure that your system works properly and efficiently.
- The system must be turned on 24 hours (1 day) prior to a snowfall. This time frame is necessary to heat up the gutter and Gutter Helmet system. If you wait until after the snow has started to accumulate, icicles and ice most likely will form and it may take several days or warmer temperatures before the Gutter Helmet will begin to clear of ice.
- Do not turn off your system until the entire roof is clear. This could take a few days, depending on the amount of snow and/or ice on your roof. Please note that the Helmet Heat® system is self-regulating and is designed to be left on for long periods of time. Once your roof is clear of ice or snow, the system may be turned off to conserve energy, until the next snow event is announced.
