Commonly Asked Questions about Gutter Helmet® & Helmet Heat®
Below is a list of some questions we’re frequently asked about Gutter Helmet® and Helmet Heat®. For more information about our products or services, Huff ‘N Puff welcomes your inquiry.
Q: What is Gutter Helmet®?
A: Gutter Helmet is a revolutionary gutter protection system that installs over your existing gutters for the ultimate protection against clogged gutters, rainwater overflow and insect infestation. With Gutter Helmet, you’ll never need to clean your gutters again!
Q: How does Gutter Helmet work?
A: Gutter Helmet works on the principle of surface tension. You can see surface tension at work when you place a glass under running water. The water clings to the surface of the glass and flows around it, rather than off the sides. When water flows down your roof, it will slide onto Gutter Helmet and around its Nose Forward Design™. This precise, engineered opening deposits water into the gutter while leaves and other debris slide off and fall to the ground.
Q: How does Gutter Helmet differ from other gutter protection products?
A: Gutter protection products that use screens and grates will allow the build-up of some types of debris that clog your gutters. Gutter Helmet’s patented design has no vertical openings that can be penetrated, so leaves and debris fall harmlessly to the ground.
Q: How strong is Gutter Helmet? Can it withstand heavy snow?
A: Gutter Helmet features a patented horizontal rib construction that is engineered for strength. Gutter Helmet can withstand up to 22 inches of rain per hour (more than ever recorded) and the heaviest snowfall. For added strength and support, Gutter Helmet is installed over reinforced heavy-gauge brackets. Thousands of installations throughout New York have proven the load-bearing capability of our system.
Q: What colors are available?
A: Gutter Helmet is available in more than 10 colors, so you can choose the color that best blends with your roof.
Q: What is Helmet Heat®?
A: Helmet Heat is a self-regulating cable system used in combination with Gutter Helmet. By warming the roof edge enough to melt snow and ice, it prevents the formation of icicles, ice dams and gutter clogs. With Helmet Heat, snow melts before it hits the edge of your roof, then flows down into gutters and downspouts.
Q: How does Helmet Heat work?
A: Helmet Heat consists of a self-regulating heated cable that is installed inside the gutter. It does not need to be turned on or switched off. As temperatures drop, the cable heats up, melting ice and snow. When warm weather arrives, the cable cools down, saving energy and money.
